Janet Kvammen is a versatile artist who expresses her art in poetry, graphic design and photography. In the span of the last one year, Janet has developed all three art forms with such passion that she was selected for the Writer’s International Network (WIN) 2012 Distinguished Poet and Artist Award.
Kvammen’s creative skills and an opportunity to work with Candice James, the Poet Laureate of New Westminster, has allowed her to combine all three of her expressions in creating her ‘Poetography’ works. She has completed many poetography items using others’ and her own poems where she designs poetry and photographs to create unified images of concepts. Her Poetographs have been in the Arts and Entertainment Hollywood magazine, and in art exhibits.
Janet has been featured as a poet at New Westminster’s Poetic Justice, Poetry in the Park, and other literary events and festivals. Her poetry has been published in Sudden Thunder Anthology, Mind Paintings Anthology 2011 and Royal City Poets Anthology 2011, all published by Silver Bow Publishing in 2011-2012.
She has recently participated in a number of events including New West Lit Fest, Inspired by Words. She was a finalist in Slam Central’s Dead Poet’s Slam, and took part in the New West Artists exhibit entitled Visual Verse: Poetry For The Eyes where artists and photographers visualised a poet’s words to bring them to life.
Janet was born in New Westminster, she now resides in Burnaby, and works as freelance Graphic Designer and photographer.
She is a member of New West Artists and The Federation of British Columbia Writers.
At the June 22 Gathering of Surrey Muse, Janet will share with us a selection of her design, photography and poetography work from her files.
