Cecily Nicholson is a poet, author and an arts activist who has published three collections of her poems: Triage (2011), From the Poplars (2014), and, Wayside Sang (2017) that won the Governor General’s award for English-language poetry in 2018. Earlier, Cecily was awarded the BC Poetry Prize and Dorothy Livesay prize for poetry. She volunteers with community impacted by carcerality and works in gallery education. She has collaborated with the Joint Effort prison abolition group, the Centre for Innovation in Culture and the Arts in Canada of Thompson Rivers University, the Audain Gallery of Simon Fraser University, and VIVO Media Arts. Cecily was the 2021 Writer-in-Residence for the University of Windsor.
