Mustapha Makhdoom (the metronomad) – Surrey Muse

Mustapha Makhdoom is a South Asian Canadian singer and songwriter working out of Edmonton. He picked up a guitar in the second year of college and that changed everything. He introduced his brand The Metronomad and launched his first collection of songs ‘Opening Doors’. Mustapha combines the poetic and musical traditions of Sindhi and Urdu into his lyrics and tunes. He has performed at various venues in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. Now he is working to produce a second collection of his songs.

While Mustapha admits reverence to Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, Muse, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Jack White and Paco de Lucia, the pivotal musical influence for him may have been his own father Zahid Makhdoom, a ‘hobby’ singer of revolutionary poetry who has an amazing voice and an undying passion for singing.
