Haytham Alhamaydeh – Surrey Muse

I am always inspired by my own old self who passed
though the toughest times to help me reach where i am today
.’

Haytham Alhamaydeh is a dancer, singer and a calligrapher who also excels in public speaking and storytelling. He is the leader and founder of the dabkeh/zaffeh performance team, Canadabkeh, since 2014. Canadabkeh showcases the culture of Palestine’s dabke- a dance traditionally performed to build roofs of houses, and now, to ‘bring joy to newly married couples by hyping their wedding ceremonies with the chants of zaffeh and the stomps of dabkeh.’ Haytham also launched the Arab Students Association at UBC, supported his mother to establish her catering service Mansaf Zaman Catering, and he was a major contributor to the BC Newcomers Camp. Haytham has danced for half his life as he began to perform dabke When he was 12 years old. As an artist, he wants to mentor the young to grow into creative individuals, spread the culture of dabkeh to tell the world about the existence and the persistence of the indigenous people of Palestine, and to make the dabke an international practiced dance like tango or salsa. Haytham comes from Palestine Nablus, and he now lives and works in Vancouver.
