Alanna Edwards – Surrey Muse

Alanna Irene Edwards is an artist, videomaker and curator who currently works as an arts educator and Engagement Facilitator at Surrey Art Gallery. Through the use of humor, she explores themes of belonging, authenticity, and the everyday. Primarily working in sculpture and video, much of her work responds to how Indigenous people are looked at and consumed through pop culture, politics, and art. Alanna has a BA in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Simon Fraser University, a diploma in Fine Arts from Langara College, and she has completed her BFA with distinction at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Alanna is of Mi’gmaq and settler descent occupying, living, and working on unceded Coast Salish territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ Nations when in Vancouver, and Nations including the q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓, q̓ic̓əy̓, and Semiahma when in Surrey. *she/her
