Barbara Carter – Surrey Muse

Barbara Carter is a musician, poet, and an arts advocate and educator. Her work has appeared in many places including Poetry Pause, the YouTube channel of the Global Peace Alliance, RCLAS magazine, emerge 19, and The Poetry of Art at Kariton Art Gallery. She is an alumnus of SFU’s The Writers Studio, and in addition to poetry, she is working on a memoir of her early years in the Maritimes, Growing Up Army, an historical novel set in Vancouver 1914. As well, she is collaborating on several projects fusing poetry with the visual arts, jazz, and improvised music. A mother, lover of all things creative, and coddler of two little white dogs, Barbara acknowledges with gratitude that she is living and creating on the traditional unceded territories of the Semiahmoo First Nation and the broader territory of the Coast Salish Peoples in White Rock. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she has lived across Canada, from Nova Scotia through Quebec and Ontario, finally finding a home on the west coast.
