Chloe Cocking – Surrey Muse

Chloe Cocking is a fiction writer, poet and playwright who has just launched her first novel ‘Blood Rain‘. She is the author of a one-woman play ‘The Blanket on Freud’s Couch‘, and her micro-fiction, articles and poems have appeared in various literary publications, zines and anthologies including ‘Saving Seeds‘ (New West Writers, 2014). She has served as a member of the editorial collective of A Room of One’s Own. She is a member of critique group New West Writers. Chloe professes to be a ‘writer of dark urban fantasy’, and she runs a blog and a newsletter on her craft and different aspects of her life as a writer.

Sylvia Taylor – Surrey Muse

Sylvia Taylor is a writer, editor, and educator. She has published over 400 articles. Her first title The Fisher Queen: A Deckhand’s Tales of the BC Coast (Heritage House Publishing) was published in 2012, and now she’s launching this month another marine-themed non-fiction book, Beckoned by the Sea: Women at Work on the Cascadia Coast. Her prose and poetry have appeared in anthologies and magazines in Canada and the US, and her work was shortlisted for the CBC National Literary Awards. Sylvia worked as executive director and president of the Federation of BC Writers for thirteen years, she is a current director for the Arts Council of Surrey. She has edit-coached over 100 book manuscripts, and she consults with authors and entrepreneurs, and teaches writing & publishing-related skills.

Helga Parekh – Surrey Muse

Helga Parekh is a writer, artist, sculptor, potter, and a performer. She published a self-made chapbook of her poem ‘Learning from the Timeless Beauty Of a Tulip‘ in 2016. She won first prize from the Arts Council of Surrey for Christmas Card Verse competition in 2018. Her poetry has appeared in various publications including Saving Seeds (New West Writers, 2014), and her poems were the finalists in the Burnaby Writers Society annual writing contest in 2012. She has illustrated a children’s book ‘Ramya’s Stars‘ by Mala Ashok. It was published by Pratham Books, a not-for-profit organization in India, in multiple Indian languages to promote reading among children. It is available in Hindi and English at the Surrey Libraries. In 2017, Helga completed the Southbank Writer’s Course at the SFU Surrey. She was a member of New West Writers, a member and sometimes facilitator of Renaissance Book Writers, and she was the Group Facilitator of Surrey Muse Writers. Helga is a supporting member of Surrey Muse since 2012. At this time, she is working on another book of poems that also may contain her illustrative art.

Alan Hill – Surrey Muse

Alan Hill is the Poet Laureate of the City of New Westminster. He has published three books of poetry including The Broken Word and The Upstairs Country. His poems have been published in over forty literary magazines and periodicals across Europe and North America. In Canada his poetry publication credits include CV2, Event, Canadian Literature, Acta-Victoriana, Dalhousie Review and Poetry is Dead. He has presented his work at Word on The Street, Summer Dreams festival, and at different literary events throughout the Lower Mainland. He is the President of RCLAS (Royal City Literary Arts Society), and he has served as a Director on the Executive Board of the Federation of BC Writers. Alan started writing after meeting his Vietnamese Canadian wife in Botswana. He is now working on a poetry manuscript on the themes of war and social dislocation and how they shaped his intercultural Canadian family.
