Isaac Yuen – Surrey Muse

Isaac Yuen situates and writes about the self in the forms of critical and creative non-fiction that revolves around ideas of nature, culture, and identity. He is the winner of the 2013 Web of Life Foundation international essay competition. His works can be found in Ricepaper, Alternatives Journal: Canada’s environmental voice, Flyway: Journal of writing and environment, and Schema Magazine: For the interculturally-minded.

A first-generation Chinese-Canadian, Isaac is also the creator of Ekostories, an award-winning blog and essay collection that explores the power of narrative to evoke personal and societal change.

Bonnie Quan Symons – Surrey Muse

Bonnie Quan Symons is a poet of deep delicate moments who writes all forms of poetry including haiku. Her Quatchi haiku came in the second place for a Quatchi haiku poems contest in the Vancouver Courier. Bonnie has been writing poetry and nonfiction for over thirty-five years, and she has been published in Canada, United States and Australia.

Some of her poems can be found at Kind of a Hurricane Press, Four and Twenty, Resurrectionist Review and Skive Magazine.

Bonnie moved to Vancouver from Calgary in the 80s, and since then she has been involved in organizing literary, cultural and educational events in the city. She works at the BC Teachers’ Federation in Vancouver while volunteering her time as a member of Pandora’s Collective and Writers International Network (WIN) Canada.

Irfan Malik – Surrey Muse

Irfan Malik is a South Asian American poet who contemplates the delicate nuances of inner life as it expresses itself when experiencing the limits placed by structured environments. He has published four collections of Punjabi poetry, the most recent being ‘Dooji Aurat” (The Other Woman). His current projects include translation in Punjabi of Federico García Lorca (1898-1936) in collaboration with a Spanish writer.

Irfan writes poetry and prose in Punjabi, Swedish, English and Urdu.

His second love is theatre, and to nurture it, he has founded South Asian American Theatre (SAATH) at Harvard University. He has directed many stage plays including Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues.

At this time, he is visiting Vancouver from Boston to share his work.

RC Weslowski – Surrey Muse

RC Weslowski, the 2012 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Champion, is a captivating performer using intense poetic words to express himself. He is a 2-time Finalist at World Cup of Poetry Slam in Paris, France. His most recent works are published in ‘The Nights are Twice as Long’ (Goose Lane Editions) and ‘Red Reads First’ (Sargent Press).

A spoken word poet and storyteller, a clown performer, a playwright, workshop facilitator, event MC and a professional voice over artist, RC has performed at poetry and spoken word festivals around North America and Europe.

His poetry has appeared in Arc Poetry Magazine, CV2, Quills and The Liar, and his one person show ‘The Cruelest Phone Book in the World’ was part of the 2015 Toronto Fringe Festival.

RC is the founder of Mashed Poetics-A night of Spoken Word and Music Mash Up as well as the creator of two one-person theatre shows.
