Haider Shahbaz is a translator, writer and a student of literature. A recipient of the 2020 Jawad Memorial Prize for Urdu-English translation, he has received awards and fellowships from American Literary Translators Association (ALTA), University of East Anglia, and the Black Mountain Institute. Haider is the translator of Mirza Athar Baig’s novel, Hassan’s State of Affairs (HarperCollins India, 2019). His other translations have appeared in Asymptote, Words Without Borders, Brooklyn Rail, and elsewhere. At this time, in addition to his current translation projects, he is doing a PhD in comparative literature at UCLA.
