Asel Omar – Surrey Muse

Asel Omar is a Russian Canadian writer and scholar from Kazakhstan who arrived in Vancouver in 2019. Writing in Russian, she has published four books of poetry and short fiction titled ‘Credo’, ‘Early Colds’, ‘Blue Wolf’ and ‘Tengri Talisman’. She has also written movie scripts and philosophical articles. Her works have been published in Russia, France, Serbia, USA and Montenegro. She is a member of the Russian and Kazakhstan PEN. Asel graduated from Moscow Literary Institute in the Higher Courses of Scriptwriters and Directors at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. She worked as a PR specialist for commercial companies in Moscow, and taught philosophy in higher educational institutions.

Isabella Wang – Surrey Muse


Isabella Wang is a writer and poet who is playing a significant role in the development of her literary communities. Her debut poetry chapbook is forthcoming with Baseline Press in 2019, and, she is a two-time finalist and the youngest writer shortlisted for The New Quarterly’s Edna Staebler Essay Contest. Her poetry has appeared in Room Magazine, The /tEmz/ Review, Train Journal, CV2, Canthius, Plenitude, and Looseleaf Magazine, and she holds a Pushcart Prize nomination for poetry. Isabella’s essays are published in carte blanche, Invisible Blog, and The New Quarterly. She is studying English and World Literature at SFU, and serving as the Youth Advocate for the Federation of B.C. Writers. As well, Isabella is working with Books on the Radio, co-ordinating the bi-monthly Dead Poets Reading Series, and interning at Room Magazine.
