Nnamdi Okonkwo – Sculptor

Any glory or acclaim that ever comes to me
as an artist, I will attribute directly to my mother
and wife, the two people who have stood by me and
have never wavered in their encouragement
and support for me as an artist
.’ Nnamdi Okonkwo

Nnamdi Okonkwo is a sculptor who seeks (in Picasso’s words), to ‘wash away from the soul the dust of everyday life.’ He sees himself as an artist for art’s sake and sees art as a way to ennoble and lift the human spirit.

Born in Nigeria in 1965, Nnamdi studied art at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu. He graduated with his BFA in sculpture from Brigham Young University (Hawaii) and completed his MFA in sculpture from BYU (Provo) in 1997.

Nnamdi’s works can be found displayed at various galleries and museums as well as in sculptures gardens and private collections throughout the world. His latest work is a large-scale commission installed in the city of Changsha, China.
