Deborah Vieyra – Surrey Muse

Deborah Vieyra is a writer, teacher and performer from South Africa. Now based in Vancouver, Canada—due to the fact that she has a Canadian husband and two Canadian cats—she is a recent graduate of The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University. The recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, Deborah holds an MA in Applied Theatre from the University of Southern California and a BA in Theatre and Performance from the University of Cape Town. Her poetry and prose have been published here and there, including in Entropy magazine and emerge 19. Because she had no idea how to bake bread, Deborah’s pandemic project turned out to be the writing of a play called The Bluebottles. And while it’s been chosen as one of the plays for the Jersey City Theatre Center’s Voices festival, she is still no closer to getting a good loaf to rise.
