Samya Arif – Surrey Muse

Samya Arif – OCEÁ is a visual artist, illustrator and graphic designer who has also been a part of the Karachi based electronic music collective, Forever South. A graduate of the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture in communication Design, her practice focuses on observations of social and cultural paradigms from a female’s perspective, embodying womxn and the spaces they inhabit. She has been a regular illustrator at Pakistan’s Herald magazine, and her work has been exhibited in Pakistan, India, UAE, England, US, Belgium, Spain and Canada. As an artist, designer and DJ, Samya has been featured in The New York Times, the BBC, Vice, CBC, The Fader and Pitchfork. She has collaborated on several international projects such as the Mumbai based Taxi Fabric, where her designs were featured in the British band Coldplay’s video. Her clients include Penguin Books, HarperCollins, Macmillan Publishers, Al Jazeera, NPR and Google. Samya lives and works in Karachi, and she is a part-time professor at her alma mater.

Dreadnaught – Surrey Muse


Also known as Adeel Tahir Shah, Dreadnaught is a musician and producer. Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Pakistan and Canada, he currently lives in Vancouver.

As a producer, Dreadnaught specializes in electronic music and was signed to Forever South, one of the major labels in electronic music in Pakistan. He has performed at raves, produced tracks for his and others’ bands and has released two albums Coincidences and Illusions and Tahir. Since moving to Vancouver, Dreadnaught has formed a funk rock band called Mosiqee. He writes his own music too and has played bass with Grey Audio and other bands.

His musical inspirations include psychedelic and progressive rock bands such as Rush, Gensis, Pink Flloyd and Led Zeppelin and Pakistani electronica artists like Treehouse, Dynoman, Alien Panda Jury, Smax and Dalt Wisney. He is currently studying sound production at the Vancouver Film School.
