John Michael Koffi is an author, a poet and a singer/songwriter from the Democratic Republic of Congo now studying, working and living in Vancouver. Last April, John published ‘Refuge-e: The Journey Much Desired‘ (Tellwell Talent 2018), a book of non-fiction and his debut title that crystallizes his experiences and understandings gained as a refugee in parts of Africa, Europe and America. He is an undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia (UBC) where he has worked as a co-representative of African Studies Minor Program for the UBC Africa Awareness Initiative, an organization he is the current president of. John volunteers as a Wellness Peer, and he serves as a member of the advisory board for Vancouver Foundation’s LEVEL Youth Granting. He has participated in numerous readings, speaking engagements and musical and poetry performances in BC. At this time, John is working on a poetry book and a music album.
