Jessica Lee McMillan – Surrey Muse

Jessica Lee McMillan is a poet, essayist, visual artist, educator and a front-line legal worker. Her writings have appeared in various magazines and journals in the US and Canada including Blank Spaces, Pocket Lint (gnurr), Goat’s Milk Magazine, Rat’s Ass Review, Tiny Spoon, The South Shore Review, Dream Pop Journal, and Blue Heron Review. Jessica’s first published poem was her high school yearbook quote, then many years later her poetry was anthologized in A Journey Across New Westminster by Word: A Poetry of Place. She is now working on a full-length poetry collection. Jessica is ever grateful for local artist’s organizations for elevating the arts and supporting the community. She is a member of the Royal City Literary Arts Society, and she has presented her work at Poetic Justice, Poetry in the Park, SFU Poets Corner and Surrey Muse. A first generation Canadian, Jessica is a settler who lives in New Westminster, British Columbia on stolen and unsurrendered lands of the Coast Salish and Halkomelem-speaking Peoples, including the QayQayt and Kwikwetlem First Nations.

Kyle McKillop – Surrey Muse

Kyle McKillop is a poet and teacher who has an MFA in creative writing from UBC. He is the president of the BC Teachers of English Language Arts, a past president of the Surrey English Teachers’ Association and the Royal City Literary Arts Society. His writings have appeared in CV2, English Practice, and the Sustenance anthology of BC food writing from Anvil Press, among others. Kyle lives on the traditional and unceded territories of the Katzie, Kwantlen, Stó:lō, Stz’uminus, and W̱SÁNEĆ.

Idrian Burgos – Surrey Muse

Idrian L. Burgos is a writer of poetry, short fiction and creative prose. He has presented his work at various literary events in Surrey, New Westminster and Vancouver. He studied at Douglas College, where he contributed to its student newspaper, The Other Press. His work has been published in an anthology by the Poetry Institute of Canada. While Idrian mostly writes poetry at present, he hopes to break more into prose. He is currently also at a major crossroads in life, and hopes to get into a career involving writing.

Deborah Kelly – Surrey Muse

Deborah Kelly has just launched her debut book of poetry, ‘Through My Eyes’ (Silver Bow Publishers, New Westminster 2015). She is the recipient of Poet of Merit Award from International Society of Poets, and the 4th Place Winner in Rabindranath Tagore Awards of 2015.

Deborah has had her writings published in numerous anthologies and publications including Quill Books in the USA, Royal City Poets Anthologies 3 & 4, with the Canadian Federation of Poets, and on the News online. Her poems were also published in the Taj Mahal Literary Review in India. She is one of the two Canadian poets chosen internationally whose poetry will be included in two anthologies coming out from India ‘Heavenly Hymns’ and ‘Duet Symphonies’ (sponsored by the Tagore Society).

Deborah hosts with Poetic Justice in New Westminster throughout the year. She has been featured at Poetry in The Park, Poetic Justice, World Poetry, Holy Wow Poets, Edge of the Page Poetry, and on World Poetry Co-Op Radio.

Deborah was on the Board of Directors for Royal City Literary Arts Society (2013-2014), and continues to work with them as a Board Assistant.
