Raghavendra Rao K.V. – Surrey Muse

Raghavendra Rao K.V. is a South Asian Canadian artist who has just finished a series of paintings on the historic incident of Komagata Maru. Born and raised in Bangalore, Karnataka (India), he attended the Ken School of Art and after completing his diploma in painting, he received a fellowship at the Kanoria Centre for Arts in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. As an emerging artist, he participated in ‘Four Young Contemporaries’ curated by Rekha Rodwittiya. As well, Raghu Jee explored the idea of installation art along with his peers, and participated in numerous solo and group shows in India, Europe, and North America. He has undertaken residencies in Switzerland, Scotland, Mauritius, numerous locations in India itself, and at a major collaborative art festival in Lille, France. Raghu Jee began teaching at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Bangalore in 1997, and has taught there occasionally since 2012. He splits his time between Bangalore and Vancouver, where he paints and lives with his wife and two children.
