Featured art by Rob Zeer – ‘Gastein Stream’

‘Gastein Stream’
60x60cm acrylic on canvas. Gastein Valley, Austria 2014

‘Gastein Stream’ was painted on location in the Gastein Valley, Austria, the spring of 2014.

‘I picked out the composition the day before on a hike with my wife, Corina. Early the next morning I hiked back to spot, set up my easel on the edge of the streambed and painted. Being early spring morning it was a bit nippy, with fresh spring vegetation sprouting forth and the stream run-off in full force.

‘There is a water spout shown spilling water into the stream. The water spout is a drain from some sort of ancient water-works building shown in the top right hand corner.

‘Though painted in Austrian Alps this scene can also be placed somewhere in the Canadian Rockies.’

~ Rob Zeer

Gastein Stream’ is featured
on the September 2017 poster of Surrey Muse.

Poster designed by Surrey Muse Art Director Mariam Zohra.

Featured Art by Rob Zeer – ‘Street Kids’

‘Pink Rose’, from ‘Street Kids’, Kelowna BC 2008

Street Kids

‘In 2008 while living in Kelowna, British Columbia, I created a series of 16”x20” / 40cmx50cm pastel or acrylic portraits on paper.

‘Shortly before my small mid-week drawing session I’ld walk to the centre park where wayfaring youth hung out. There I’ld find & proposition a fresh new model.

‘It was always win/win; the model leaving with some cash, artists with a portrait, and everyone with new friendship, understanding and acceptance from the day.’

~ Rob Zeer

‘Pink Rose’ is featured on the August 2017 poster of Surrey Muse.

Rob Zeer – Painter

I strive to reflect the true essence
of whatever I paint as authentically and honestly as possible.
The process of finding the personal technical skills
and inner-place to achieve this is my highest artistic endeavor
.’

Born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Rob Zeer has painted and exhibited throughout Canada and Europe. He is a self taught artist with ‘minor study’ at the University of Calgary and Alberta College of Art. After years of painting & exhibiting large canvases he has recently returned to drawing on paper with mixed-media colouring using crayons, fluorescent-felts, acrylics etc. These works are smaller and more spontaneous, experimental & fun. He is inspired by a wide range of painters and styles ‘starting at the impressionists, Canadian Group of Seven, early 1900 expressionistic figurative, certain abstract, more recently the German Blaue Reiter expressionism… the list is long!’ Rob now lives and works in Germany.

Rob drew often as a kid with his first painting done in high-school art class, and from there it became a major passion. ‘One of the first few talents I had was art.’ Rob says, ‘We tend to express ourselves in the areas that we’re good at. Since embarking seriously as an artist it has been a long tough journey of trying to perfect my expression. When others appreciate the product of my efforts it is very fulfilling.’

There is another art form that Rob also practices: ‘I am an avid meditator. The goal of meditation is similar to art… one’s inner true-self experience & expression beyond the mind.’
