Alix Ohlin – Surrey Muse

Alix Ohlin is a novelist, short story writer, educator and mentor who has published five books including two novels, the DUAL CITIZENS (2019) and INSIDE (2012), that were short listed for both the Giller Prize and the Rogers Writers Trust Fiction Prize. Her work has appeared in various publications such as the Best American Short Stories, Best New American Voices, and The New Yorker. Alix has taught creative writing and literature at McGill University, Lafayette College, Warren Wilson College, and at the New York State Summer Writers Institute. She graduated from Harvard University with an English and American Literature and Language degree in 1992, and then earned a masters in writing from the Michener Center for Writers in Texas in 2001. Alix now lives in Vancouver where she is the Chair of UBC’s creative writing program since 2018.

Shashi Bhat – Surrey Muse

Shashi Bhat is a writer, editor and an educationist working in New Westminster. Her debut novel, The Family Took Shape (Cormorant, 2013), was a finalist for the Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award. She is the winner of the 2018 Journey Prize, a finalist for the 2018 National Magazine Award for fiction, and, a finalist for the 2010 Bronwen Wallace Award. Shashi’s fiction has appeared in The Malahat Review, The New Quarterly, The Dalhousie Review, Grain, PRISM international, Best Canadian Stories 2018, Journey Prize Stories 24 & 30, and other publications. Shashi holds an MFA in fiction from The Johns Hopkins University. She is the editor-in-chief of EVENT Magazine, and teaches creative writing at Douglas College.
