Hari Alluri – Surrey Muse

Hari Alluri is a Vancouver-based Filipino South Asian filmmaker and poet who has published three collections of his poems titled ‘The Flayed City’ (Kaya, 2017), ‘Carving Ashes’ (CiCAC, 2013), and ‘The Promise of Rust’ (Mouthfeel, 2016). His film project  ‘Pasalubong: Gifts from the Journey’ was made in partnership with the National Film Board (NFB) in 2010. Earlier, he created ‘Memory Block’ as a part of The Colouring Book: Digital Shorts by Artists of Colour (NFB, 2008) and ‘Acknowledge’ (2009), part of Cineworks’ Cinematic Cartographies workshop. His poems have appeared in 580 Split, Cutthroat, Lumina, Kartika, TAYO, PULSE and RAIN. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from San Diego State University and, along with the Federico Moramarco Poetry International Teaching Prize, he has received VONA/Voices and Las Dos Brujas fellowships and a National Film Board of Canada grant.
