Judy is a poet and a short fiction writer. Her work has appeared in various literary journals and anthologies. Her poem ‘Troll’, about a preschooler who swallows a doll, won the Other Voices Prize for Poetry. Judy’s first book ‘Snatch’ (Anvil Press 2000) included both poems and stories. She is a Kwantlen alum and has a BFA in Creative Writing from University of Victoria and an MFA in Creative Writing from University of British Columbia. Judy is now writing her second book titled ‘Lightning Round’. Judy lived in Surrey for close to twenty years, and both rural life and suburbia are central to her work.
Her writings have appeared in The Capilano Review, Geist, Room, Prism International, CV2 among others, and in about a dozen anthologies including ‘ribsauce: a cd/anthology of words by women’ (Véhicule Press), ‘spoken broken: an anthology of spoken word’ (Wired on Words/Broken Pencil), ‘Breathing Fire: Canada’s New Poets’ (Harbour Publishing), and ‘Eye Wuz Here: Stories by Women Writers Under 30’ (Douglas & McIntyre).
Judy is drawn to work that is simple, direct and comic. She loves ‘chatting with writers about their process, their artistic routines, and their workspaces.’
At the May 27 gathering of Surrey Muse, Judy will present a selection of her published work. More about the event is here: may-27-gathering-of-surrey-muse
