Mariam Zohra D – Surrey Muse

A multi-disciplinary artist of Kashmiri and Punjabi descent, Mariam (aka Myrh), is a poet, vocalist, and an experimental creator, combining poetry, voice and visual arts. In 2016, she began taRka, a multi-media collaboration project. She has just released ‘Water Print’ by Myrcury with Enigma Curry. Her early independent albums were created with musicians Agitation & Astarte 23, and Dub Therapie. In 2018, Aumega Project released ‘Rock Bottom’ with Dariusz Jackowski, while Lullabies for Insomniacs put out a limited vinyl ‘And The Light Beams Will Guide The Way’ by Dreamspeak. Along with poems published in various literary collections and in a textbook for high school students, Mariam’s first collection of poetry, ‘Not To Understand,’ was published in 1994. She joined Theatre in the Rough, a youth advocacy group in 1998, co-founded Surrey Muse in 2011, and by 2016, in combination with launching Purple Poppy Press, a digital publisher, she published a second collection of poems with lyrics and drawings titled ‘These Tales Are True.’ Mariam studied Philosophy and Creative Writing at Douglas College. She is the Media Producer and Art Director of Surrey Muse Arts Society (SMAS).
